What is Kmud?

Kmud is a free graphical MUD client for Linux and other Unix platforms running KDE. It is an useful and easy to use program for all people who want a nice graphical interface instead of a simple telnet for playing MUDs. The goal is to be the best MUD client for Linux/Unix.
Kmud is published under the GNU General Public License.

What is so special about Kmud?

Kmud fully integrates to your KDE Desktop. Thus your KDE settings for all applications also apply to Kmud and it has a common user interface. But of course you can use Kmud when running a different desktop environment, too.

Here are our main features so far:
  • connection wizard / profiles
  • automapper
  • aliases
  • triggers (also color-triggers, regex support)
  • input history (with intelligent browsing)
  • split screen in view history scrollback
  • numpad walking
  • speed walking
  • ansi/vt100 support with color customising
  • alternative input line & multiline input
  • logging facility
  • programmable toolbar
  • auto login / auto reconnect
  • MCCP (mud client compression protocol) support
  • plugin interface
For feature requests and bug reports send an email to bugs@kmud.de.

Happy mudding :-)

I just committed the admin dir of the KDE 3.0.3 release to the Kmud CVS. The old KDE2 admin dir still can be found at ftp://ftp.kmud.de/pub/kmud/kde2-admin.tar.gz.
However, it's very likely that we drop KDE2 compatibiliy in the near future. First because there are features in KDE3 we would like to use but which are not in KDE2. And second because maintaining compatibility to both versions can cause headaches on the development side. E.g. dialogs have to be created with a KDE2 system because the dialogs code generated with a Qt3 designer does not compile on KDE2 systems.
The poll showed that already the vast majority of users run KDE3 and that will only increase over time.

The KDE3 admin directory was updated so that it works with newer automake versions.

The new Kmud2 (still under development) now compiles on both KDE 2 and KDE 3 systems. Just replace the amdin/ directory from CVS with the admin/ directory from KDE 3. A package containing the admin/ directory from KDE 3.0.1 can be downloaded here.

There is now also a precompiled package of the Kmud BSX plugin. Just copy the files to the lib/ subdirectoy of the Kmud 1.0 binary distribution.
